Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, demons, and dark forces expanding in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Revealing details for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then paid off his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could help the party reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can expect discovering which players will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
